Welcome for Welsh Assembly rail freight proposals |
Compiled by the Welsh Assembly's Enterprise and Business Committee, it includes recommendations such as pressing the UK government to examine the business case to electrify relief routes on the Great Western Main Line, advocating gauge clearance for all schemes, improving rail links at ports, raising awareness of facilities and speeding up interventions outlined in the National Transport Plan.
The publication also proposes revising the Wales Freight Strategy to place a greater emphasis on rail and focusing on reducing carbon emissions from transport.
Welsh first minister Carwyn Jones has attended a new project aimed at enhancing tourism in the country, with plans to extend Llangollen Railway by 2.5 miles into the town of Corwen receiving £500,000 in Welsh government funding.
