Lockheed Martin Turn To A Single Source |
Lockheed Martin has announced that they are replacing 240 vendors with just one for a range of electronic components that they use in their manufacturing process. The lucky vendor is Arrow Electronics, and they will be the only supplier for 22,000 electronic components for Lockheed Martin.
The purchasing agreement between Lockheed Martin and Arrow is for one year, and will provide Lockheed with not only a cost saving, but an expected reduction in lead time and a standardization of part across their whole manufacturing operation. In order to reduce lead times single source suppliers usually set up a warehouse close to manufacturing sites in order to offer their customer same day or next day service. Using a single source for 22,000 items could lead to a reduction in purchasing staff at Lockheed Martin due to significantly less administration.
