John Lewis enjoys superb Easter |
Sales for the week ending 13 April 2011 were up 27.5% compared to the same week last year and up 25% on Good Friday Week last year.
The employee-owned retailer said the majority of its branches delivered double-figure increases with Leicester topping the table with an uplift of 42%, followed by Bluewater at 37% and Trafford at 33%.
There were also double-digit uplifts from all three buying directorates with electrical and home technology leading the way with a 59% increase on the same week last year. Demand for the new iPad3 was strong while Vision sales were up 83% as shoppers in London and the south of England prepared for the Digital Switchover.
The fashion directorate achieved an 18% increase in sales helped by a 33% rise in sales of children’s shoes as parents prepared for the return to school. Sales of premium beauty products were also strong, up 32%, helped by a competitor price matching exercise and promotional activity. In the Home directorate sales increased by a healthy 16%.
Online sales at Johnlewis.com rose 39% on last year with all the directorates performing well. Electricals and home technology was the best performer with an uplift of 65%, followed by Fashion at 33% and Home with a 17% rise.
